Luke Martins is an artist and creative producer from Sydney, Australia. Currently based in Tokyo, his practice spans fine art, art direction, exhibition curation, editorial publishing, design, moving image, installation, and fashion. Each stream converges through a collaborative, conceptually driven, medium-free approach in which ideas, rather than disciplines, determine form. In 2023 he founded and directed Rofe Street Gallery, where he produced exhibitions and interdisciplinary projects across fine art, fashion, and music.

An MFA graduate of the National Art School in 2025, his practice often leans toward site-specific installation and explores the methods through which we collaborate and fraternise with institutions to commodify cultural, spiritual, and artistic identities. His MFA research investigated how artists transform the materials of inspiration to develop a unique visual language, while exploring ideas of global citizenship, the new age self-help industrial complex, and the ways we share knowledge, experiences, and inspiration with one another.

Outside the contemporary gallery space, he regularly works across creative production and art direction, bringing together artists, designers, musicians, and brands through a variety of collaborative projects. These include exhibitions in unconventional spaces such as a bank vault and supermarket car park; styling, creative direction, and modelling for editorial and commercial shoots with international brands across Sydney, Tokyo, and London; and publication and design projects developed in collaboration with a New York fashion archive and musicians across Australia and the United States.

His practice extends beyond making artwork. He establishes platforms and initiates collaborative projects that create space for artists to expand their practice. Whether it’s through exhibitions, publications, moving image, or commercial collaborations, he is driven by a commitment to producing meaningful work with his contemporaries.

‘Money Will be My Family (in loving memory of Rich Homie Quan)’ is a 2025 group exhibition shown in the bank vault beneath Van Q store in Wollongong

Seen from Keira Street, Wollongong

The exhibition featured 10 artists: Axel Gerber, Cookie Smith, Brodie Cullen, Monty Parsons, Kenya Peterson, Antton Pagliasso, Katelyn Scott, Luke Martins, Morgan Iddles, Lola Lister

I came across this bank vault one day on a delivery job in wollongong, after some conversation Q, the owner offered the space for me to use for a show. I knew Kenya was searching for a space to use, so we got to work. After many trips from Sydney to Wollongong we made it happen. Definitely one of my proudest exhibitions I’ve been a part of and organised.

My works in the exhibition are below. Further down is documentation of exhibition installation, works and related materials (posters and exhibition book).
