Modelling agency profile

Luke Martins is an artist, designer, and facilitator of creative projects and events. He founded Rofe Street Gallery in 2023. As a MFA Alumni graduating from National Art School, Sydney in 2025, his practice generally leans toward sculpture and installation, though conceptually and materially is not tied to any one medium.

His medium free creative practice  critiques and explores the methods in which we collaborate and fraternise with institutions to commodify identity — culturally, spiritually, and artistically. He explore ideas of global citizenship, the new age self-help industrial complex, and the ways we share knowledge, experiences and inspiration with one another. His MFA work is about being inspired and as artists what we do with the materials of inspiration to develop our unique “style”.

Outside of the contemporary gallery space, he often works on music and fashion related projects, such as; styling,  zine publication, music video, graphic design, and clothing design.

ROFE STREET STUDIO & GALLERY

Designed by Emilee Robinson

Established in 2023, Rofe Street is a contemporary art space located on Gadigal land in Sydney’s Leichhardt.

Consisting of 8 resident artist studios and a gallery, Rofe Street was established to provide an alternative platform for both emerging and established artists to collaborate across diciplines. The space is driven by a commitment to inclusivity and providing early career artists with the opportunity to experiment.  Our gallery program aimed to engage with new and diverse contemporary practices across the sydney arts community.

I founded and served as Director from its inception in Nov. 2023 til Nov. 2024. This project is one of my proudest achievements. First, building and managing 8 studio spaces, inhabited by a community of artists to create, share and develop their artistic practice. Second, building and running a contemporary art gallery, from the programming, marketing, finance, and operations, while facilitating, organising and curating monthly exhibitions, and creative events. During my tenure at Rofe Street I’m responsible for building, managing, promoting, organising and curating the first four exhibitions at the gallery + various creative events and a concert.

Although I am no longer the director or run the space in any capacity, Rofe Street continues to operate today with fully functional studio spaces and art gallery.

Documentation of construction development, exhibitions & events below.

Studio and Gallery Construction
2023-2024

My grandfather and I began construction on the studio spaces in December 2023 building everything using MDF, timber and a lot of screws. Once all the studios had been inhabited my business partner and I aquired the lease for the downstairs gallery area, we then in April 2024 again my grandfather and I begun construction on the gallery space, buiding 3 large walls and fully kitted out storeroom/workshop area.

Jesus to Child
7th - 23rd June 2024
Rofe Street

Curated by Kenya Peterson

Featured artists:
Monty Parsons, Kiki Smith, Lola Lister, Axel Gerber, Morgan Iddles

Rofe Street’s first show, this was also the grand opening of the gallery space. We estimated 200 people were in attendance

Featured artwork, ‘Beach Head’ by Monty Parsons which was a finalist and featured in the 24th annual Dobell Drawing Prize at the National Art School Gallery. (The large rope work)

Severance Package
11th - 20th October 2025
Rofe Street

Duo show: Luke Martins (myself) & Max Perkins
Rofe Street’s fourth show.

We were inspired by the obscene amount of people who come to exhibition openings, where there is no possible way to see the work, the only thing left to do is drink and socialise.

Max and I collaborated on every work here. Our aim was to turn the opening experience in on itself.  Typical aspects of an opening serve as the work while more traditional forms remain in a space inaccessible to the public

Sincerity is a Paper Umbrella
6th - 22nd September 2024
Rofe Street

Duo show: Anoushka Mondraty & Charlie Longmire

Rofe Street’s third show.

Curated by Luke Martins, Charlie Longmire, Oscar Davis

Despite having a large space it was a difficult task curating 25+ paintings into a space it not feel crammed. Proud of this show, two really incredible artists.
