Luke Martins is an artist and creative producer from Sydney, Australia. Currently based in Tokyo, his practice spans fine art, art direction, exhibition curation, editorial publishing, design, moving image, installation, and fashion. Each stream converges through a collaborative, conceptually driven, medium-free approach in which ideas, rather than disciplines, determine form. In 2023 he founded and directed Rofe Street Gallery, where he produced exhibitions and interdisciplinary projects across fine art, fashion, and music.

An MFA graduate of the National Art School in 2025, his practice often leans toward site-specific installation and explores the methods through which we collaborate and fraternise with institutions to commodify cultural, spiritual, and artistic identities. His MFA research investigated how artists transform the materials of inspiration to develop a unique visual language, while exploring ideas of global citizenship, the new age self-help industrial complex, and the ways we share knowledge, experiences, and inspiration with one another.

Outside the contemporary gallery space, he regularly works across creative production and art direction, bringing together artists, designers, musicians, and brands through a variety of collaborative projects. These include exhibitions in unconventional spaces such as a bank vault and supermarket car park; styling, creative direction, and modelling for editorial and commercial shoots with international brands across Sydney, Tokyo, and London; and publication and design projects developed in collaboration with a New York fashion archive and musicians across Australia and the United States.

His practice extends beyond making artwork. He establishes platforms and initiates collaborative projects that create space for artists to expand their practice. Whether it’s through exhibitions, publications, moving image, or commercial collaborations, he is driven by a commitment to producing meaningful work with his contemporaries.

VIDEO SOUND WORK

Valentine’s Dedication Video
2026

found media video & sound work
2mins 11secs
Compilation video hand recorded by myself to celebrate the spirit of Valentine's day. For those in relationships and for those who aren’t.

This is one of my favourite videos I’ve made. Songs by Justin Beiber.

Song of the day... Good Ones Go
2026

found media video & sound work
7mins 15secs
To me noise can almost be euphoric and meditative. This work came from the indecision of which song from this album should I share/send to my friends. So I created a song of my own using all of them.

Created using all the songs from Drake’s Take Care to create a noise sound piece. Similar method I employed with My Way *2025*.

Video was made to accompany the sound work.

My Way *2025*
2025

found media video work
6mins 28secs
Compiled using every live performance of Frank Sinatra’s iconic ‘My Way’

When I first heard this song I never liked it, it was too intense for me.

I wanted to capture that intensity.

Untitled (playlist)
2025

found media video work
1hour 3mins 37secs
Shown in my final MFA studio installation at the National Art School.

This work is a compilation and at times mashup of videos I had been collecting in a youtube playlist over the final year of my degree.

I chose to have music playing over the whole video because thats what I do usually no matter what I’m doing I’m either listening to music or reminded of music in the process.

Three Days
2024

found media video work
16mins
Shown at SeeThru Film Festival 2024 at Leichhardt Town Hall

We rigged the theatre up with microphones to capture the whispers, rustling feet, and anxious fidgets as the crowd was forced to sit through 16mins of silent contemplation in the cave. Inspired by Samsara by Lois Patiño (2023)

The title “Three Days” refers to the period between Jesus's death and resurrection, during which his body was placed in a tomb.
